University football commentator, Joel Klatt, has criticized Tennessee coach Josh Veicel and the program for manipulating Nico Iiamaleava's departure. Klatt discussed criticism of “The Joel Klatt Show” while analyzing Tennessee's pressure games for next season. In a brief clip of the program published on X on Tuesday, Klatt said:
“It does not help to have lost their quarterback. Sorry, but only the story is more than the Tennessee faithful they want to throw there. They went there and ran to Nico Iiamaleava under the bus.”
•
Iamaleava separated with Tennessee volunteers earlier this year after jumping spring practices. His transfer followed months of controversy, beginning with his demand for revision of his null agreement at the end of the 2024 season.
According to its initial agreement, it was expected that Nico Iiamaleava would be $ 2.2 million this season. However, their review proposal would have seen that the figure increased to $ 4 million. However, the parties could not reach an agreement and moved Iamaleva Ucla.
At the height of the controversy, Joel Klatt lent his voice to Nico Iamaleava. In a publication on April 12 at X, he wrote:
“This situation of Tennessee/iamaleava is wild and totally predictable! Of course, this would happen when there is no protection and rules to govern the business and movement of sports players. You may not like what NICO does, but it is certainly their right.”
However, Josh Vehel has defended the position of the program and emphasized the importance of putting their interests over individual interests. Said:
“It is the state of university football. At the end of the day, no one is greater than the program. This also includes. We have a chance. We have a lot of boys who will give everything for Tennessee.”
After his first year season, when it was a backup of Joe MiltonIamaleava was named Tennessee's initial quarterback in 2024. As an initial flight quarterback, he launched 2,616 yards and 19 touchdowns last season.
Fans are looking forward to the transfer of Iiamaleava to Ucla will shape their future at college and beyond. In the meantime, Hepel and his staff must be adjusted to lose their long -term quarterback.
