Despite starting the year as a regular in the Philadelphia Phillies' outfield, veteran Nick Castellanos saw his playing time decrease as the season progressed. As a result, the 33-year-old's future is shrouded in uncertainty heading into the winter.
Previously a client of 'super agent' Scott Boras, Castellanos and Boras cut ties before the start of the 2025 season, with the outfielder serving as his own agent for the past year.
Now, facing a crucial offseason, Castellanos has decided to hire Mato Sports Agency, run by agent Gene Mato. Jon Heyman took to X on Wednesday to update fans on the development.

“Nick Castellanos has hired Mato Sports Management to represent him,” Heyman posted to X
Despite signing a capable representative, many fans predicted a bleak future for Castellanos after an underwhelming season.
“Not even Scott Boras can save him. It's over Nick!” wrote a fan
“Does he have connections in Japan? Because that's where Nick will be playing next year,” another fan commented
“KBO will be perfect for him,” another fan he answered
“I guess it's okay how he's gone from the Phils. Legit thanks for the memories, Nick.” another fan he answered
“Big Whiff Nick had his moments and I thank him for that. I hope he ends up in Miami or Pittsburgh where not much is expected of him and he can daydream all he wants.” another fan shared
“I think it's time for Nick to move on. Thanks for four mostly fun years. He'll get $20 million next season in any event and a chance to start clean and happy somewhere else.” another fan published
One of the hottest points of discussion regarding the Phillies heading into the 2025 season was the bitter relationship between Nick Castellanos and the manager. Rob Thomson.
With Thomson now set to continue as skipper for the 2026 season, this may spell the end of Castilians'hour at Citizen's Bank Park.
On Thursday, Oct. 16, Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski was asked about Castilians'future. As reported by an insider Todd Zolecki of MLB.comthe executive refrained from divulging much information.
“Well, we'll see what happens. I mean, I'm not going to get into specific players that are on our roster, under contract, but the things that you talked about are true, but we'll see what happens.” Dombrowski said
Although the Phillies are reported to be actively seeking the offload Castilians this offseason, the $20 million salary he is owed through the 2026 season remains a massive deterrent for interested franchises.
