Rome Odunze's father wants Bears to trade WR amid lack of targets in Ben Johnson's offense

It appears wide receiver Rome Odunze's father, James, believes his son's NFL future is not with the Chicago Bears. AX, his father re-tweeted a post asking Ben Johnson's team to trade him to a team that will effectively utilize his talents in the passing game.

“Can the Bears trade Rome Odunze to a team that will pitch to him,” the tweet read.

James Odunze also shared another tweet highlighting the wide receiver's stats so far this season after eight games. His son has been targeted just 59 times with 31 receptions, 473 yards and five receiving touchdowns.

During Sunday's win against the Bengals, Odunze was targeted three times by quarterback Caleb Williams. Rookie Colston Loveland was targeted seven times for six receptions, 118 yards and two receiving touchdowns, including the game-winner in the fourth quarter.

According to Statmuse, Rome Odunze ranks 22nd for most targets by wide receivers this season. That's disappointingly low for someone who is the WR1 for a franchise like the Chicago bones. Cincinnati Bengals star Ja'Marr Chase leads the list with 107 targets, 76 receptions, 831 yards and five receiving TDs.

The Bears selected Odunze with the ninth overall pick in last year's NFL draft. He agreed to a four-year rookie deal worth $22.7 million. During his rookie campaign, the wide receiver posted 734 yards and three receiving TDs as his team finished fourth in the NFC North with a 5-12 record.
