Rory McILroy defends the media debacle in Quail Hollow

Rory Mcilroy went to the reaction he faced not to talk to the media during the 2025 PGA championship. In a recent interview, McILroy explained the reasons for his silence, calling “the PGA a strange week.”

“I did not play well the first day, so I wanted to go to practice … The driver's news was broken, I didn't want to talk,” McILroy said (through Kyle Porter to X). “On Saturday, it was supposed to leave at 8.20 in the morning. I did not leave until almost two in the afternoon … I was only tired, I wanted to go home. And then on Sunday, I just wanted to go up the plane and return to Florida.”

He also expressed frustration by the results of filtered team tests:

“It was a bit angry because … I knew the scotty driver failed on Monday, but my name was the one that was leaked. It was supposed to remain confidential.”

McILroy said he kept quietly to avoid saying something he could regret, with the aim of protecting the others involved.
