“So glad the best team didn't win”

The Los Angeles Dodgers were down 3-2 in the World Series after Game 5 and looked set to be eliminated by the Toronto Blue Jays. However, the Dodgers pulled off dramatic wins in Games 6 and 7 to clinch back-to-back World Series titles.

After the heartbreaking loss of Saturday's extra innings, the broadcaster and ex-SportsNet MLB catcher Caleb Joseph said “the best team didn't win the series.”

Dodgers star Kike Hernandez responded to Joseph's comment on his Instagram story, captioning his World Series photo:

“I'M SO HAPPY THE BEST TEAM DIDN'T WIN!!”

Joseph, who was signed by the Blue Jays to a minor league deal in 2020, said Toronto played better baseball and did a lot of things right in the best-of-seven series.

“There were a lot of wet eyes, and I don't doubt that. I don't blame them for that. It's going to sound like sour grapes and I really don't give a damn how…but I think the best team didn't win this series,” Joseph said. “I think the Blue Jays are the best team and I feel like they played baseball a certain way that was contagious, that got the attention of the fans.

“It's disheartening to see the best team not win. That's not to take anything away from the Dodgers, but the Blue Jays did so many things right. They did so many things right.”

Kike Hernandez reflects on Dodgers teammate Andy Pages' Game 7 viral catch

During the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded for the Blue Jays, Kike Hernandez was sent down by center fielder Andy Pages for a crucial catch.

Hernadez, who was tracking Ernie Clement's ball, said he planned to recreate MLB legend Willie Mays' iconic 1954 World Series catch.

“I was going to throw a Willie Mays, and then he tackled me, and I felt like I went under, and I thought we lost,” Hernandez said.

Pages' catch sent the game to extra innings Will Smith he homered before Yoshinobu Yamamoto secured the win.
