Steve Kerr guided the Golden State Warriors to a forceful 95-85 victory in the game 1 Sunday against the Rockets de Houston. Dubs showed that they could overcome the rockets in their own game, a defensive struggle in the trenches. Golden State refused to let Houston control the game defensively and made key baskets to steal a home advantage.
After the game, Kerr said this to journalists:
“They are a kind of old school. In many ways, they are an image of his coach. IME (Udoka) was a milinet as a player. He is hard, physicist and this is what Houston has.
•
“In this series, they know where their advantage is, playing a lot in Adams, sometimes with Sengun and everyone crashes (the boards). I found it in 1997 for me.”
Rockets of Houston Coach IE Udoka started with a strong front line of Steven Adams, Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson. Steve Kerr responded by going to his Draymond Green Draymond Front 6 feet-6 in the center and 6 feet-6 Jimmy Butler playing Power Forward.
Udoka's strategy worked early, but the rockets had very little offensive pace. It wasn't until the middle of the fourth quarter that someone else in addition Alperen Sengun reached the two -digit score. Houston Guards, Jalen Green and Fred Vanvleet, had trouble leaving shots. They finished the game with 17 points combined behind a clip of 7 by 34 of naughters, including 2 by 17 of Deep.
The programming of the rockets made it difficult for Sengun's late score. He often met someone or one of Golden State's guards would pick his pocket. Jimmy Butler had five robberies, three of them by hitting the great all-star man from the weak side.
Steve Kerr's team shot the 12 by 32 of Deep, compared to Clip 6 by 29 from Houston. The space between Golden State allowed Butler and Curry to make key baskets. Despite the loss, rockets may not change their identity.
Houston rockets were not late to overcome the Golden State Warriors. However, they were some stops to make a 1-0 advantage in the series.
Steve Kerr will have to continue to deal with the forcefulness of his opponents to move to the next round. The rockets grabbed 22 offensive rebounds at six Golden State. If they had been more effective to take advantage of their additional possessions, the result could be different.
Rockets may not shoot again so badly in the series. If they keep their domain inside the paint and control the boards, it will become a series of springs. Kerr knows and is convinced that he can ask his players to adapt to a style he used to play during the Chicago Bulls'Reign in the 90's.
