The Edmonton The Oilers hit a new low this season, dropping an 8-3 loss at the hands of the Dallas Stars in Tuesday night's lone game on the NHL schedule.
The game was 4-0 after 20 minutes at Rogers Place, silencing the home crowd. Connor Clattenburg got his first NHL goal to get the Oilers on the board. But that would be the only highlight of the night. The game was 6-1 after 40 minutes, when Evan Bouchard and Jack Roslovic scored for the Edmonton Oilers in the third.
Meanwhile, Nathan Bastian scored twice for the Dallas Stars, and captain Jamie Benn got his first of the season. The goal was Benn's 400th career goal. Benn had missed the first month and a half of the season after recovering from a collapsed lung. Roope Hintz (PPG), Sam Steel, Jason Robertson (PPG), Wyatt Johnston (PPG) and Justin Hryckowian scored for the Stars.
Dallas went 3-for-4 with the man advantage while giving up just one power play opportunity on the night.
So let's take a look at the Edmonton Oilers' three least impressive players from their Tuesday night blowout at the hands of the Dallas Stars.
Adam Henry continues to struggle offensively for the Edmonton Oilers. He was unable to produce meaningful offensive opportunities Tuesday night despite getting three shots on goal in nearly 14 minutes of ice time.
The veteran forward has not scored a goal since October 23rd. That's a streak of 17 games that has gone without a goal. In this period, four assists. On Tuesday night, he also racked up four costly penalty minutes.
Andreu Mangiapane continues to be a disappointment this season for the Edmonton Oilers. He played less than nine minutes on the night, registering just one shot on goal. To his credit, that lone shot was a quick opportunity that could have put the team on the board much earlier in the first period. But he missed it, and that was Mangiapane's entire night.
He finished the night at minus-2 in just 15 innings. Like the other Oilers forwards, he went to the bench down the stretch as the game got out of hand late in the second period.
It may seem like a recurring theme to blame the Edmonton Oilers goalies for every loss. But when starting goalkeeper Stuart Skinner gives four goals in eight shots, it is difficult to overlook the responsibility of the goalkeeper.
Skinner had four goals, including a Nathan Bastian goal that was denied by a high post in the first. Skinner got the hook after the first period, with Calvin Pickard taking over. Pickard didn't fare much better, giving up four goals on 22 shots.
The worst performance of the season for the Oilers is now in the books. The club will look ahead to their next game on Saturday night against the Seattle Kraken at the Climate Pledge Arena.
