A WWE star was recently released from the company. The original plans for him before his release have come to light.
On the September 27 TNA iMPACT tapings, Ridge Holland faced Moose in a dark match. The bout was declared a no-contest after Holland suffered a serious injury and was unable to continue. It was revealed that he suffered a Lizfranc injury and would also need fusion surgery on his neck in the near future, which would sideline him for the next few months. After that, WWE had opted not to renew his contract, which was set to expire on November 14, but the company would continue to pay for his rehabilitation. Holland took to social media to air his grievances, claiming he felt abandoned by the company. This led to the sports entertainment giant terminating his contract a week early for non-performance. This means Holland will not receive his guaranteed pay, but his rehabilitation costs will still be covered by the company. Holland's wife also started a GoFundMe page to seek financial help for the family.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer RadioWWE had originally planned to release Ridge Holland a year ago, but was able to renegotiate a one-year renewal deal by taking a significant pay cut. Under the new agreement, Holland was supposed to remain under the NXT banner for another year. The report indicated that Ridge was likely under his main roster contract at the time of the renewal. The company hoped another year in NXT would benefit the black and silver brand due to their experience on the main roster. However, this was not the case. Meltzer also noted that instead of releasing Holland, they planned to keep him until his contract expired and even planned to pay him through November. However, Holland's recent injury changed the situation.
After Ridge Holland took to social media to express his frustration against WWE, he was immediately fired since the sports entertainment magnate saw his social media post as a breach of contract. A fight reporter believes it was done to send a message.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, wrestlers under contract cannot speak ill of the company in public. He also noted that the Stamford promotion also wanted to send a message to the WWE locker room.
“In your deal, you're not supposed to talk bad about the company in public. And so they felt they now have the right to fire him. It's going to cost him. It's going to be a week's pay or two weeks because he wasn't getting paid after November 14th anyway. But it's like they didn't want to do it, but it seemed like they did. That, they wanted to send a message to everybody that if you say something bad, you can get fired. And that's what happened. (H/T – Cultaholic)
It will be interesting to see what is next for Ridge Holland after his release.
