Welcome to Sportskeeda Wrestling’s WWE news and rumors for December 20, 2025. Today we’ll talk about John Cena’s original plans to main event Saturday Night, a multiple-time champion cleared to compete, and some unfortunate news regarding the return of Seth Rollins.

Let’s start:

#5. What were the original plans for John Cena to main event WWE Saturday Night?

John Cena’s latest run began at the Royal Rumble and ended when he closed the show against Gunther in Saturday Night’s Main Event. After the match, he was given a fitting farewell and officially retired from in-ring competition when he left his merchandise and equipment in the middle of the ring.

Awesome title change recorded for the last SmackDown – look now!

According to the Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletterthe original plan would have been different, as internally, John Cena was not listed as the headliner of the show. Instead, Cena would have closed out his run with the farewell elsewhere on the card, and the main event would have been Cody Rhodes vs. Oba Femi.

#4. John Cena reveals why he turned heel at WWE Elimination Chamber 2025

The Elimination Chamber in Toronto had one of the biggest reactions of the year when John Cena turned heel for the first time in two decades and lined up with The Rock and Travis Scott against Cody Rhodes. While it looked like the trio would take down The American Nightmare, The Final Boss disappeared from the weekly product leading up to WrestleMania 41.

In an appearance a What do you want to talk about? The Never-Seen Seventeen revealed why she decided to turn heel. The franchise player claimed that management wanted to create a memorable moment that night, which is why they decided to turn it around. Also, Cena was informed in February.

#3. Multiple WWE Champion cleared to return – Reports

Raquel Rodríguez of Judgment Day was introduced to the group as Liv Morgan’s friend and bodyguard. The 34-year-old star later became the center of attention when Morgan took an injury break and slowly made his way into the main event scene on Monday Night RAW.

She recently suffered a nasty blow to the forehead when Nikki Bella pushed her into the steel steps. After undergoing concussion protocol, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that the multiple WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion is cleared to compete once more.

#2. Jade Cargill was attacked on WWE SmackDown

In November, Jade Cargill ended Tiffany Stratton’s long reign as WWE Women’s Champion in Salt Lake City in Saturday night’s main event. The Storm became a bona fide heel on the brand and crushed Alba Fyre and B-Fab in one-on-one matches.

However, she eventually got into a proper feud on the blue brand with Mia ‘Michin’ Yim. On the last edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Michin blindsided Cargill and hit her with a kendo stick. Although the officials and B-Fab stopped the onslaught from escalating further, it’s clear that the two will have a one-on-one match sooner rather than later for the title.

#1. Unfortunate news regarding Seth Rollins’ return to WWE

Seth Rollins’ dream run as World Heavyweight Champion and visionary leader of The Visionary came to an abrupt end when he was injured in Perth. Management decided to change all long-term plans involving Rollins and the group, as the men’s Grand Slam champion will not be returning to the weekly product anytime soon.

In an appearance at Games with Names podcast, the 39-year-old RAW star addressed his injury and explained what happened during his match with Cody Rhodes in Perth. While addressing the injury, The Visionary revealed that he has been out of surgery for two weeks and it could be six months before he returns to the ring.

“Now two weeks out from surgery, that’s about six months of recovery. We’ll see how it goes,” Rollins said.
