Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he didn't know Cooper Rush would have received a contract bonus for playing in Sunday's 23-19 loss to the Washington Commanders.
“I didn't know about that,” Jones told reporters. “I didn't know about it until I read about it.”
“The incentives are in the team and we put it so that if someone, like a defender, has to play, they have the incentive money but usually they are put because of the people. to represent him,” he added.
Rush would have earned an additional $250,000 if he had played 55 percent of the team's games this season, as he already earned $250,000 for appearances over 45 years with Dallas (via CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones).
He was on the field for 52.5 percent of the Cowboys' offensive snaps heading into Week 18, and a full game probably would have allowed him to reach 55 percent.
It was fast on the bench in favor of Trey Lance against Washington.
Lance completed 20-of-34 for 244 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He also picked up 26 rushing yards on six attempts.
Rush started in Dallas' previous eight games after three minutes of Pro Bowl shortstop Dak Prescott ended the season. hamstring surgery.
He could have gotten a big bonus to close out the regular season, but the Cowboys chose to finish the year with Lance on the floor.
