Travis Kelce has no time for anyone who is upset that the Kansas City Chiefs rested all of their players in Week 18 instead of trying to win so that the Cincinnati Bengals can have a shot at making the playoffs.
On the latest episode of New Heights podcast (first at the 23:25 mark), Kelce said “we're undefeated – the king throws every game” in response to criticism after the Chiefs' 38-0 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
There were a few NFL pundits who accused the Chiefs of going into this game to avoid playing the Bengals in the postseason.
The Bengals needed to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Broncos and Miami Dolphins to get the 7th seed in the AFC. They won two of those three games with a win over the Steelers and a loss to the Dolphins, but Denver had no trouble against the Chiefs.
Kansas City, which had already locked up access to the first field and home, did Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones, Trent McDuffie, George Karlaftis, Jawaan Taylor and Isiah Pacheco in Week 18.
Bengals fans and others may be angry about the way things went in this game, but it's not Kansas City's job to complain about other teams. The Chiefs did what they had to do in the first 17 weeks of the regular season to rest their best players.
If the Bengals want to be upset about anything, they can look to their team's Week 1 loss to a New England Patriots team that finished 4-13. They had six other losses by seven points or fewer this season.
One win in each of those games would have given the Bengals control heading into Week 18 instead of relying on anyone else.
It's also fair to say that the Chiefs ducking the Bengals is silly since they already defeated them when the two teams played in Week 2. It was a close game that Kansas City won on Harrison Butker's goal as time expired, but the idea that. The two defending Super Bowl champions may be afraid that everyone is stupid.
