Adults in Washington state ordered evacuations in three neighborhoods south of Seattle on Monday after a team failed to comply with a week of heavy rain.
King County’s evacuation order affected homes and businesses east of the Green River in parts of Kent, Auburn and Tukwila.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood warning affecting approximately 47,000 people. In their message, the NWS warned that failure could lead to “floods threaten life” on the east side of the levee.
The Desimone levee, located 5 miles (8 km) south of downtown Seattle, collapsed as a result flood record week which led to widespread migration.
The The levee was severely damaged by the 2020 floodand the long-term rehabilitation is not expected to be completed until 2031. King County officials are implementing an emergency plan to help stabilize the levee now and reduce the risk of flooding to the community, which will be in place until the long-term rehabilitation is completed.
King County emergency management director Brendan McCluskey told reporters Seattle At times the repairs may take several hours, and officials are closely monitoring the Desimone levee.
A large portion of the car’s levee was washed away by the floodwaters. The footage shows workers using heavy equipment to dump large bags of sand into the pit, working to keep it from growing.
The Washington state governor said he was sending troops to King County. The guard has already been helping people affected by the floods in the western part of the state over the weekend. Officials have been concerned about levee breaches for days around the state amid the storm.
