Manchester United legend Jaap Stam has slammed Marcus Rashford for his recent comments. He believes the winger is taking the easy way out by trying to leave the club amid criticism.
Rashford has faced immense criticism from fans and pundits since the start of last season for his poor performances. He has also been heavily linked with a move since last summer. He recently suggested he is ready for a new challenge away from his boyhood club.
In a recent interview, Jaap Stam shared his thoughts on the Rashford situation at Manchester Unitedsaying (via goal):
“I think saying you want to leave is the easy way out because it's been a difficult period and he's faced a lot of criticism for his performances, but we haven't seen enough fights on the pitch.
“I think if he was showing that, there would be a different mood towards him and more credit would be paid to him. Maybe it would be good for him and for the club if he moved on, but I would have liked to see him give – all for the club”.
Rashford, 27, has scored 138 goals and provided 63 assists in 426 games for Manchester United since graduating from their academy.
In a recent interview with a journalist Henry Winter, Marcus Rashford talked about a number of things, including his future at Old Trafford. When asked if he could leave the club soon, the Englishman replied:
“For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I'm gone, there will be no hard feelings. You will have no negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's who I am as a person.”
“If I know a situation is already bad, I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I come out I'll make a statement and it'll be me.”
Rashford has scored seven goals and assisted three more in 24 games across all competitions. However, new head coach Ruben Amorim has opted not to include the England international in the matchday squad for his last three games.
He last played in United's 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Europa League on December 12, but failed to register a contribution to the goal.
