“You need family but you also need a team”

Former Indian captain and winner of the 1983 World Cup Kapil Dev He has shared his opinions on the BCCI rule of time limitation that family members may remain with tour players. He said the problem needs a balanced approach.

Kapil Dev stated that while the family is needed, having a team is also important.

“Well, I don't know, that's individual. I think it's the call of the cricket board. My opinion is that yes, you need family. But you also need a team, all the time,” he said while talking at the “Kapil Dev Grant Grant Grant Invitational” event. “

The Indian legend recalled the situation during the game days. He said that players would say that they focus on the cricket with the combination of the family and also enjoying the tour.

“In our time, he told us ourselves, not on the cricket board, that the first half of the tour should be a cricket and, in the second half, the family should come to enjoy -too. It should be a mixture,” he added.

The BCCI issued strict guidelines after the defeat of India's 1-3 series against Australia on the 2024-25 border Gavaskar Trophy. One of the rules stated that family members could visit players only once on the tour for two weeks if the tour has exceeded a period of 45 days.

Virated Kohli criticized the BCCI standard with respect to the family on tour

During an event last Sunday, former Captain of India and star blender Shot kohli expressed his opinion on the subject. He openly criticized the BCCI rule that restricts the presence of family members present on the tour.

“The role of the family is very difficult to explain to people … How essential is to return to your family every time you have something intense, which happens outside,” Kohli said (through Indian Express).

Kohli also said that having the family around helps players treat their game as a responsibility. He added that I would not want to miss any opportunity to spend time with his family.

Following Kohli's critique, an India report stated that the BCCI may consider changing the strict standard over the family's tour.
